Beautiful Antique Georgian English 15ct Gold And Amethyst Paste Ring.
A lovely ring from the late 18th century. Crafted in rich yellow gold, the shank has traces of decoration still present. Four Amethyst pastes, foil backed, sit in a cluster set in silver.
One of the stones has a few nibbles round the edge but the others are better. Some solder is visible on the back from when it was made, but fortunately this is not visible when worn. Some surface wear all over and a couple of knocks to the shank as you’d expect of a 250 year old piece.
The ring appears to have been worn alongside two others, which have rubbed against the shank and altered its shape in cross section (see pictures for this). However, this is so perfectly even on both sides that I wonder if this might not have been deliberate, perhaps an early attempt at the court shape. Still comfortable either way.
Faint traces of a hallmark just visible but not legible, tested for 15ct gold. We’ve not cleaned this as many of our customers prefer pieces this old in their original state, so there is tarnish on the silver as pictured.
