Beautiful Antique Georgian Gold Mourning Necklace.
This beautifully made piece date’s to the late 18th century and would make a fine addition to your antique jewellery collection.
It features a delicately painted panel depicting a lady in mourning, holding her child as she releases a dove upon an altar. It is reasonable to assume that this belonged to the lady in question and was worn in memory of said infant. Such pieces were very popular well into the 19th century and are highly sought after today.
In good condition for its age, with only minor surface scratches and wear. There is dirt visible behind the glass, but this could be removed and cleaned by a jeweller if so desired. Many collectors prefer to leave jewellery like this in its original state, so we prefer to leave the decision up to our buyers.
The fabric choker is obviously later, but very much in keeping with how it would originally have been worn. The sewing leaves much to be desired as pictured (I’m afraid we have no sewers at Heist Jewels!) but this is very easily sorted out.
Unmarked but tested for gold.
